24th Robert O. Smith MemorialRobert O. Smith Memorial Dec 2-4, 2005Tournament Results December 6, 2005 Fierce competition, good sportsmanship and family fun were the hallmarks of the 23d Annual Robert O. Smith Memorial Handball Tournament, held at the Salem Family YMCA, Salem, Oregon on Dec 2-4, 2005. By sending extra money with their entries or donating prize money back, tournament players generously contributed $86 to the Oregon State Handball Association Fund for youth development. Several players renewed their USHA memberships, thereby providing much needed support for USHA and our great sport, “The perfect game”. Thanks for everything, players! Additionally, from the proceeds of this tournament, the Salem YMCA Handball Club will donate $100 to the USHA and $200 to the “Salem Family YMCA ‘Partners With Youth’ 2006 Campaign”. Walt Sinclair, Salem Consolation – Mike Steete, Forest Grove, d. Frank Ikard, Salem My stalwart tournament committee: Jim Brock, Walt Sinclair, Barry Bray, Gib Gilmore, Russ & Jolae Reed, Jerry & Rich Berger helped with countless details. They were there, along with perennial Joe Cox of Seattle, to ref 1st matches every morning. Thanks to the Salem Family YMCA for the full use of the facility to players and their families, plus the help of many staff members, esp. Myron McCoy, Mike Horner & Corey Bianccinni for their assistance. Further kudos to our Salem Oregon sponsors: Pespico, Skyline Ford, Izzy's Pizza, Croissant & Co. Finally, in spite of nasty driving weather, the players were on time (mostly) J! They were cooperative, competitive, and patient with delays or schedule adjustments. Many thanks to all. Josh Reese, Tournament Director, The 24th Robert O. Smith Memorial Tournament is tentatively scheduled for December 8-10, 2006, depending on the yet to be determined date of Salem's annual "Parade of Lights", which is great but interferes with tournament parking.0 CommentsPosted on 16 Feb 2006 by Glenn
