2007 Pacific Northwest Regional Handball Championships

The 2007 Pacific Northwest Regional Handball Championships were held at the Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland, Oregon, on April 13-15, 2007. There were 125 players who participated with 88 players in 10 singles divisions and 41 doubles teams in 7 doubles divisions.
There were several notable finishes in the tournament. Ryan Grossenbacher and Jon Hohol repeated their Men’s Open Singles finals appearance from 2006 with Ryan holding on to defend his Open title from last year. In the Women’s Open Singles, Holly Jonely came to Portland from Alaska to take the title in a strong field of 8 players. Glenn Carden and Jim Wainwright, the defending champions in the Men’s Open Doubles, played a very exciting match against David Steinberg and Jeff Kastner. A new champion team was crowned as Steinberg and Kastner prevailed in a tiebreaker. Unfortunately, we had only two teams in the Women’s Open Doubles. Jennifer Hinman and Leah Dean defeated Kristen Steele and Jean Kasamoto. Several players who finished second in their divisions in 2006 went on to win that same division this year: Rob Angelo in Men’s A Singles, Steve Lee in Men’s 60+ Singles, Earnest Kevin in the Men’s 60+B Singles, and Butch Roper in the Men’s 70+ Singles.
