Results of the 2009 Oregon State Doubles Championships March 16, 2009

Fifty-four players competed in The 2009 Oregon State Doubles Championship Tournament, held for the very first time at the “Courthouse Athletic Club” (Lancaster) in Salem Oregon, March 13-15, 2009. The club and handball courts were outstanding and the play was fiercely competitive. Family & friends enjoyed the excellent viewing area, high level play, and hospitality.

RESULTS:
Open Doubles – 1st Jeff Kastner/Matt Steele, Hillsboro, 2nd Ryan Grossenbacher/Bob Herrera, Hillsboro. 3rd: Rich Berger/Doug Makey, Salem. Consolation: Tim Dean, Grants Pass/Rob Angelo, Bend.

Women’s Open Doubles – 1st Jennifer Hinman, Hood River/Leah Dean, Grants Pass, 2nd Kristen Steele, Hillsboro/Cindy Matsubara, Hillsboro, 3rd Kirstin Rice, Eugene/Julie Dennis, Corvallis.

A Doubles – 1st Jarrad Krueger/Steve Maltman, Vancouver WA, 2nd Sean Beall/Reid Ertsgaard, Eugene. 3rd
Angel Frutos/Tom Montgomery, Salem. Consolation: Darrell Roeder, Scappoose, Antonio Villanueva, Hillsboro

“GM/Masters" Doubles – 1st Dave Delaney/Steve Grow, Portland, 2nd Ken Goe/Pat Hartford, Hood River. 3rd Walt Kastner, Tillamook/Mike Wecker, Portland. Consolation – Sean Beall, Eugene/Darrel McNair, Klamath Falls.

"SM" Doubles – Jerry Berger, Salem/Vern Holstad, Willamina. 2nd Jay Latona, Medford/Ed Mann, Lakehead CA. 3rd Don Riddell, Newport/Craig Chambers, Grants Pass. Consolation: Phil Horton, Eugene/Frank Ikard, Salem.

All the proceeds of this tournament, over $400.00, will be donated to the Oregon State Handball Association for youth development and player support. Additionally, players contributed $65.00 to support OSHA. Several players renewed their memberships to support USHA and our “Perfect Game”!

Special thanks to Phil Crock, Manager of the Lancaster Courthouse and his staff for the use of their outstanding facilities. Also many thanks to Frank Ikard & Cheryl Chastain for hospitality and serving refreshments; Frank, Sean & Dalton Beall for seeding & draw, Frank for the brackets, court schedule, & desk management, Josh Reese for handling the entries and money management, and to all the players who showed up on time and volunteered to referee matches. Thanks to all who made the tournament a success!

NOTE: the 2009 World Handball Championships will be held at the Multnomah AC in October, 2009. All Oregon Handball players should not only enter to play but also volunteer to help with this exciting and monumental event!
